Asia Europe Youth Training

Strengthening the awareness of human rights among youth workers in Asia and Europe is the focus of a week-long training course in Budapest next month.

ASEF, the Asia-Europe Foundation, was founded in 1997 as an informal platform for dialogue and cooperation between the two regions. Among other things, ASEF organises conferences and exchanges aimed at strengthening the relationship between civil societies in Asia and Europe.

Its latest project is a training course for 30 youth trainers, youth leaders and youth workers from Asia and Europe, to take place in Budapest from May 17-24, on "The Role of Human Rights Education in Intercultural Dialogue".

The main aims of the course are to provide participants with an understanding of the central values of human rights, to help them to develop a critical understanding of intercultural dialogue and its implications for youth activities, to teach them about communication in multicultural settings, and to provide them with tips for human rights education activities for young people.

The course, which is being jointly organised by the Council of Europe, will involve non-formal learning and will combine theory and practical training. Organisers hope to establish follow-up projects in human rights education involving more youth leaders from Asia and Europe.
