This website describes only the scholarships for which Canadians are eligible. Other types of scholarships are available in other countries. Only Canadians (whether they live in Canada or abroad) can apply for a scholarship through one of the Japanese diplomatic missions in Canada.
Non-Canadians (including permanent residents and landed immigrants) must contact a Japanese diplomatic mission in their country of origin.

Tenure of the Scholarship
One year or less from October 2009.
QualificationsInterested persons must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Be born between April 2, 1979 and April 1, 1991;
- Be a regular undergraduate student at a foreign (non-Japanese) university majoring in fields related to Japanese language or Japanese culture (must have completed one year of studies by April 2009 and must not have graduated before the commencement of the scholarship);
- Have sufficient Japanese language ability to receive instruction at a Japanese university in Japanese.
Remarks* All candidates must take a Japanese test, which will be held at the Consulate General of Japan at Montreal. The results of this test will have a bearing on the selection.
