Research Council Discovery Grant - Monash University, Australia

The aim of this project is to work out whether Australia should develop derivatives markets for water in agricultural regions. We will take the southern Murray- Darling Basin as a case study. The possibility of establishing water derivatives has been canvassed by the Australian Stock Exchange. However, no quantitative analysis has been provided on the likely effects. To fill this void, we propose to integrate computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling with the theory of derivatives and to apply the integrated system to the issue of water. Applicants should post or email their applications, including a resume (with detailed academic experience), full transcripts, names and contacts of two referees.
