UCL Faculty of Laws Research Scholarships, England

For the academic year 2009-10 the UCL Faculty of Laws will be offering three prestigious Research Scholarships for graduate research students.

The position of UCL Faculty of Laws as a world-leading law school has recently been confirmed by its ranking in the UK government 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). UCL Laws is placed joint 1st in the UK for the proportion of its research activity in the top two categories. The Faculty has also been rated in the highest category in the UK for teaching (excellent). We value research not only in contributing to the quality of our teaching and the supervision we give our research students, but also in its contribution to the development of law and its influence on legal practice and public policy. The Faculty has 56 members of full-time academic staff, including 27 professors, and currently has some 55 MPhil/PhD students.

The Faculty welcomes applications from students wishing to study for an MPhil/PhD in any area of law or discipline related to law. The Scholarships are awarded to the strongest applications in any field of law in which the Faculty can provide supervision.

The scholarships consist of fees equivalent to the standard postgraduate rate (2008/9 - UK/EU: £3,300; Overseas: £12,380) plus a maintenance stipend of £13,000 per annum for full time study, and an annual research expenses allowance (£400). Benefits are pro-rated for part-time students.
The closing date for these scholarship applications is 20 March 2009.
If you are interested in these scholarships and have not yet applied for admission to the Faculty of Laws, you should do so as early as possible in order to receive an admission decision before the scholarship deadlines.
