The nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for GLBT college students, the Point Foundation, is calling for applications from students of merit for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, beginning or continuing in the fall of 2009, are eligible to apply. Applications will be accepted between Dec. 12, 2008, and Feb. 9, 2009.
The Point Foundation provides financial support, mentoring, leadership training and hope to students of merit who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
“Our Point Scholars represent the best and brightest in our community, coming from diverse educational fields, genders and gender identities, sexual orientations, racial backgrounds, economic circumstances and geography,” stated Bruce Lindstrom, vice chairman and co-founder of Pointe, on the Pointe Web site. “Our Scholars are chosen for their demonstrated leadership, scholastic achievement, involvement in the LGBT community, and financial need.”
By supporting diversity in the academic environment, Point hopes to create a greater level of acceptance, respect and tolerance within future generations for all persons regardless of sexual orientation gender identity or gender expression.
