Master and Doctoral Scholarship for Foreign Students at Osaka University by Japanese Government

The Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University aims to acquire a good international reputation through increased involvement in the exchange of students and/or researchers and in joint research projects. It's called Engineering Science 21st Century" Program! "Engineering Science 21st Century" is a special program taught in English for Master's and/or Doctoral Courses.

The Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University had launched the special English taught course for foreign students who have no accessibility of Japanese.
These Programs as follow:
  • Special Program of "Engineering Science 21st Century" for Master's and Doctoral Courses Taught in English for enrollment in April 2009
  • Special Program of "Engineering Science 21st Century" for Master's and Doctoral Courses Taught in English for enrollment in October 2009
  • Special Program of "Engineering Science 21st Century" for Master's and Doctoral Courses Taught in English for enrollment in October 2009 (Sponsored by Japanese Government Scholarship)
Students are trained and supervised with the use of English so that the students are not requested to learn Japanese to take their Master's/Doctoral degree.

Applicants are requested to submit enclosed application forms by registered mail (EMS) to the office of Graduates Section, Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, not later than 19th of December 2008 for enrollment in April (Non-sponsored) and in October (Sponsored by Japanese Government Scholarship), and not later than 31st of July 2009 for enrollment in October (Non-sponsored).

International Masters Award 2009 – University of Otago, New Zealand

Value: An emolument of $13,000 plus tuition fees at the International student level and costs incurred in the production of two hard bound theses.Tenure: Tenure is for one year, or until the thesis is submitted, whichever period is the shorter.Categories: MastersLocation: New ZealandSummary: This Award is offered by the University of Otago for Masters thesis study in any subject.
Comments: Postgraduate Awards are awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, to International candidates in the first year of their thesis research for a Master’s degree.Tenure of a Postgraduate Award by a Master’s degree student is for one year, or until the thesis is submitted, (whichever period is the shorter.) Students must be in the first year of their thesis research to be eligible for an Award. A shorter period of tenure shall be awarded in cases where four months or more of registration as a candidate for the degree have already been completed at the time of the award. Overseas tenure of a Postgraduate Award is not permitted.
Eligibility Information: Postgraduate Awards are available only to students seeking to obtain their first Masters qualification. The University of Otago International Postgraduate Awards are open to students from all countries, with the exception of Australia, France and Germany (who are eligible for the Domestic Scholarships and Awards). Confirmation of the Award is dependent on approval of the application to register as a Masters’ candidate and completion of the enrolment procedure.

Japanese Government Scholarships for Filipinos

The Japanese Government receives about 100 scholars from the Philippines under six different scholarship categories:
  • Teacher Training – This scholarship is open to teachers (elementary/high school) or academic staff/members at a teacher training institution wishing to undergo professional improvement in the field of Education in Japan for 1 1/2 years.
  • Japanese Scholarship- This scholarship covers a 1-year period of studying Japanese language, life and culture.
  • Undergraduate – This scholarship covers a 5-year period of study in Japan for individuals wishing to pursue undergraduate-level studies in the field of humanities, natural sciences or social sciences.
  • Research – This scholarship covers a 1 1/2 to 2-year period of study in Japan for individuals who are interested in conducting research in a field related to what they have previously studied within the scope of humanities, natural sciences or social sciences.
  • Professional Training School – This scholarship is open to individuals wishing to pursue a 3-year non-degree program at a Japanese vocational school in the following fields: Civil Engineering, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Nutrition, Infant Education, Secretarial Studies, Hotel Management, Tourism, Fashion / Dressmaking, Design, Photography, etc.
  • College of Technology – This scholarship is open to individuals wishing to pursue a 4-year non-degree program at a Japanese school in one of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Information, Communication and Network Engineering; Materials Engineering; Architecture and Civil Engineering; Maritime Engineering; etc.
WHO MAY APPLY
Applicants must be under 35 years (Teacher Training), between the ages of 18-29 (Japanese Studies), between 17 to 21 (Undergraduate), under 35 years (Research), between 17-21 (Professional Training) and 17-21 years old (College of Technology).
FINANCIAL AID/GRANT SUPPORT
School fees, travel and allowance will be provided.
REQUIREMENTS
The different scholarship categories have different requirements. All of them require submission of an application form, photograph, academic transcript and recommendation letters.

16 Erasmus-Mundus Studentships Computer Vision and Robotics

Khmer Intellectuals: Applications are currently being considered for 16 fully funded scholarships (fees and stipend for 8 EU and 8 non-EU students) on the prestigious 2-year Erasmus-Mundus European Masters programme on Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT) between Heriot Watt University (UK), the Universite de Bourgogne (France) and the Universitat de Girona (Spain).

VIBOT is one of the European Union`s flagship Erasmus-Mundus courses. The key aim of VIBOT is to produce the next generation of leading engineering researchers to solve important future challenges in a broad range of engineering applications. Starting from a comprehensive coverage of the prerequisites in the field of digital imagery and basic image processing, the students will cover at specialized level all subjects of artificial vision applied to robotics, medical imagery and 3D vision.

This Masters programme will provide an unrivalled knowledge in computer vision and robotics applied to industrial problems and medical imagery. Moreover, the students will have also acquired a mobility, a broadmindedness and the language skills which constitute, in an age of globalization, a major asset for finding research work either in a public laboratory or in a private company.

VIBOT encompasses a broad spectrum of scientific and engineering research from fundamental theoretical results to applied engineering solutions that have strong industrial relevance. Individuals within the VIBOT research network are leading authorities on areas ranging from computer vision, autonomous vehicles, statistical signal processing, robotics and image processing.

The Masters candidates will experience research cultures in three different European countries and will be able to draw on the expertise from leading experts in different disciplines and different nationalities. The students spend the first semester in Scotland, the second in Spain and the third in France. The fourth semester is reserved for the 5-month Masters research project at one of the host universities or in industry.

Selection Criteria

Admission to VIBOT is highly competitive and based on academic excellence. Applicants should have a minimum of a BSc degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics or mathematics. The VIBOT research programme is intended for top level non-EU and EU students with a fluent knowledge in spoken and written English (TOEFL 550). Applicants are expected to provide a statement of their research interests and motivation.

SEARCA PhD Research Scholarship for 11 SEAMEO Countries

Khmer Intellectuals: Launched in November 2005, the SEARCA PhD Research Scholarship provides financial support to a limited number of qualified PhD students whose researches are relevant to the priority thrusts of SEARCA.

This scholarship program aims to:
Provide PhD students the opportunity to use the resources and facilities available at SEARCA and its network of universities for their research;Produce quality research papers for publication; andEnable them to work with SEARCA’s R&D personnel on mutually identified areas of concerns/interests in agriculture and rural development.
Any graduate student who is a citizen of any of the 11 SEAMEO member countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam) and pursuing a PhD in agriculture or related sciences from any university in the world is eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The applicant must have already completed his/her course work with an approved dissertation proposal and is ready to conduct the dissertation research.

The applicant’s research must focus on any of SEARCA’s priority thrusts under the broad themes of natural resource management and promotion of agricultural competitiveness.

Application Requirements

The application requirements are:
  1. Filled out Application Form (see below);
  2. Letter of application for the research scholarship;
  3. Recommendation letter from the Dean of Graduate School of the university where the student is pursuing his/her degree program;
  4. Dissertation research outline/proposal approved by the Advisory Committee and Dean of Graduate School;
  5. Budgetary requirement for the entire research duly attested and recommended by the major adviser and Dean of Graduate School;
  6. Certified transcript of academic records for all courses taken at the PhD level;
  7. Curriculum vitae;
  8. Letter from the student certifying that he/she is not receiving any other research grant from any other institution. If partial funding has been obtained from other sources, a certification from the funding agency indicating the amount of grant and the items in the research that are covered by the grant; and
  9. Research timetable indicating the activities involved in the research, the expected date of defense and expected date of seminar paper presentation.
Application deadlines are 1 April and 1 September.
